Journeyman Instrument Technicians

 

Qualifications:

• Must possess Control System Technician certification, an Associate’s Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology, or an Industrial Electronics Technical Certification may substitute for the required experience.
• Driver’s license

Tasks:

• Ability to work in a multi-skilled environment
• In-depth knowledge and application of technical requirements and quality standards
• Familiar with computerized maintenance management systems
• Proven safety and environmental mindset
• Ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables, or study sample parts as required
• Check programs and Electronic Operator’s Interfaces and performs program modifications when necessary upon the approval of the superior.
• Performs troubleshooting and repair on all electrical, instrumentation and automation components and system
• Configures instruments assigned and submits the necessary documentations.
• Analyzes process control data and parameters to identify causes of deviation and implements corresponding solutions
• Develop and execute new electrical, instrumentation and automation designs and programs for the upgrading of conventional controls.
• Checks spare parts status and provide feedback to the supervisor on any discrepancy against the actual stock status in the technical stores
• Able to troubleshoot programs on PLCs and electronic Operator’s Interfaces and checks configurations of soft starter, VFD and other instruments.
• Operates and performs troubleshooting on electric power substation and distribution system.
• Prepares and executes all preventive maintenance activities for electric power substation and distribution system
• Ensures that all electrical tools and test instruments are in good working condition and are properly returned to its proper place after each use.
• Reviews and updates electrical, instrumentation and automation drawings. Provides feedback to the supervisor on any discrepancies found in the drawing or documents against actual installation
• Generates technical reports, operating instructions, and carry out training and orientation involving new installations or modifications

Instrument Technician Apprentice

 

Qualifications:

• Have worked with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, and chemical composition
• In-depth knowledge installing, maintaining, repairing, measuring and controlling instruments used in industrial and commercial processing and manufacturing
• Adapts well to working environment changes
• Physically fit to lift weighty objects
• Excellent, mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities to install, maintain and repair the measuring and control instruments used in industrial and commercial processing
• The term of apprenticeship for an instrument technician is 4 years (four 12-month periods), including a minimum of 1500 hours of on-the-job training and 8 weeks of technical training in the first and second years, and a minimum of 1425 hours of on-the-job training and 10 weeks of technical training in the third and fourth years.
• An applicant who previously completed courses of study or work experience related to the Instrument Technician trade or holds a related journeyperson certificate and has the employer’s recommendation, may qualify for credit that could reduce the term of apprenticeship. Inquiries about credit for previously completed courses of study or work experience can be directed to an apprentice representative at any Apprenticeship and Industry Training Office.
• A person who has previous training or work experience in the trade and wants to determine their level of skill and knowledge for entry or advanced standing in an apprenticeship program may complete the Prior Learning Assessment Online Application.
• A high school student can become an apprentice and gain credits toward apprenticeship training and a high school diploma at the same time under the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP).

Tasks:

• Use pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation, and diagnose faults
• Consult manufacturers’ manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures
• Repair, maintain and adjust system components or remove and replace defective parts
• Consult with and advise process operators
• Practice loss management principles
• Calibrate and maintain components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications
• Work with engineers on basic design
• Install and maintain instruments on new or existing plant equipment and processes
• Interpret and use appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices

RTU / PLC Application Engineer

 

Qualifications:

• Must be a graduate engineer and worked with programming
• Experience in the automation industry is a huge advantage
• Must understand the translation of customer material and technical requirement specifications into best practice solutions
• Comfortable acting as technical liaison between the company and both the customer’s technical specialists and supplier’s technical specialists
• Detailed background in PLC programming and various industrial processes (regulation and distribution)
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Application for workstation and Server environments
• Has a high level of knowledge of network communication in general – TCP/IP, UDP, FTP, SNTP, DHCP, security, etc
• Understands industrial communication – from physical layers like serial and TCP/IP to application layers with polled and event—based communication protocols/drivers
• Ability to comprehend accurately customer wants and needs and provide solutions
• Ability to focus on customer service strategy
• High level of communication skills especially in English

Tasks:

• Actively participate in system application designs and in client meetings
• Design, develop, commission and test advanced RTU and PLC applications in high-level programming languages
• Technical support and guidance to customers
• Onsite support and product training for customer technicians
• Documents tasks and workloads for every project

• Maintains integrity and perform safe and efficient maintenance of all instrumentation and control systems and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
• Effectively executes and communicates daily instrumentation maintenance activities
• Responds quickly and efficiently when problems and breakdowns arise
• Gather data in support of equipment condition monitoring
• Plans and estimates safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of jobs while minimizing the impact on operations and incurred costs
• Actively participates in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions, and contribute to developing solutions
• Ensures that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to and maintain complete and accurate records associated with the technical and preventative aspects of this position
• Assists in maintaining complete and accurate records associated with the technical and preventative aspects of this position
• Reviews and applies continuous improvement to safe work practices, procedures, and standards to ensure safe and reliable work execution
